Throwback: Lil’ Kim – “Crush On You”

Do I gotta say more?

Happy Labor Day Brooklyn

If you’ve ever been to Brooklyn during Labor Day weekend, then you already know up around Eastern Parkway, it’s Carnival. Back in the day, I used to think that the parade was just an easy excuse to see some skin. However, it wasn’t until I started to hang with my Trinidadian homies over on Dean Street in Crown Heights that I learned it’s more than that. I learned it’s about having fun, but even before that it’s about representing their lineage. I got to see how people prepare for months for Carnival. I remember walking down Classon Ave and hearing the play of steel drums because the kids were practicing or seeing my homies girl cousin going out for costume fittings. This shit is real and for some people it’s an expedition. I know chicks that have traveled to Carnival in DC, Toronto, Brooklyn, Miami and of course Trinidad.

Although it’s cool to be out there. I stopped going years back once dudes started coming out there shooting at people. Time out! It’s a different time. Back in the day, people just wanted to chill, but you’ll find a young and irrational youth at times that will make a mistake that he or she will won’t to reverse if giving the chance to do so. Life if crazy and kids today… need better examples of role models.

Be safe!

ThrowBack: ATCQ – The Low End Theory

I’m just saying for those that don’t know, This is A Tribe Called Quest. This might be a history for some of you, but this is one of the illest groups of all time. In my lifetime, these guys helped to birth the seed that has since sprouted and grown into a rooted passion for Hip-Hop in me. I watched their documentary the other night on another cable channel created by Viacom called Paladiam, Platinum Pants or something like. When the show came on, it was probably one of the very small moments in which nothing going on in the world was more important to me. My computer could have burned to a crisp, but I was watching that damn doc. The Low End Theory is classic. I hope you take a listen to this shit, because some of you need to wake the fuck up!

(New Video) The Koolest – “1995” feat. Napoleon Da Legend

Son, son, son, son… when this joint first came on I was like where are they going with this while walking backwards, but I was aight. My dudes reminiscing on wax something that I think about often… 90’s Hip-Hop. Dude I miss that shit. At least that’s what I think they were hitting on. I was def feeling this joint though. It’s not on some loud on radio type shit that you hear, but on some I’m at BBQ with the homie in Clinton Hills, I got a brewski in my hand and we just chilling looking at skirts. That’s an honorable pat on the back my dude. Pick up The Koolest next LP entitled “Nerds At The Kool Table” that’s set to drop around October 2013.
